Ryan Burge returns to Sutton United to earn point at National League favourites Forest Green Rovers
Ryan Burge returned to the Sutton United starting XI and put in an impressive display to earn a point in a 1-1 draw at Vanarama National League favourites Forest Green Rovers.
After a 3-1 opening day defeat to Solihull Moors, the National League South champions had a tough away trip to Forest Green who were also on the end of a surprise 1-0 loss away at Boreham Wood.
The home side took the lead through Matt Tubbs but Sutton equalised from the penalty spot. A persistent Burge gained possession on the left by-line and pulled the ball back to Rory Deacon who was fouled. Nicky Bailey dispatched the spot-kick to make it 1-1.
Burge was inches from levelling matters sooner after picking up a loose ball and chipped an effort over the helpless goalkeeper onto the crossbar.
The 27-year-old continued his impressive record for Sutton with the draw at Forest Green making it six games unbeaten for the U’s when he’s started with four wins.Click here to stay up to date with AtTheMatch
